Poetry Project
Many of the local people in our town and others like it in Panama do not have much interest or education in the fine arts. You could say that culturally, they have little or no aesthetic sense or knowledge. Many of the Ex-Pats in our village have volunteered for the school and library to read stories to the children, introducing English and an art program that gives them a knowledge and education of the different types of arts there are. Currently they are trying to educate about recycling and trash, as littering is a huge problem here. As a poet, and in my quest to develop my Spanish, I have decided to use my front gate as a passive art billboard of sorts. Each week a poem from a famous poet will be written in Spanish for the passers by to read.
